Originally trained in textile design at Winchester College of Art, for many years, Bryony sold hand printed scarves and fabrics from her studio in Brighton.
After attending a pottery weekend with friends a few years ago, she became completely hooked on the amazing tactile quality of working with clay and started working from her garden studio. Since then, she has worked with handbuilding and experimented with many techniques. She continues to love working with this medium, not only the meditative aspect of slowly building a piece from a lump of clay, but also the thrill of having a surface that she can bring painterly skills to, in a way that is in harmony with the shape of the piece.
Her work includes decorative tableware, tiles, and more recently, a series of birdbaths, handbuilt in stoneware clay, decorated with oxides. They are fired to a high temperature and are weatherproof.
